Location:
 Thame, Oxfordshire (Office-based with some hybrid flexibility)
Salary: £32,000 (Full-time, pro-rata for part-time)
Hours: 30.0 per week (to be worked over 5 days)
Contract: 9-month Fixed Term Contract

About the role.

As our organisation grows, delivering an efficient, reliable, and people-focused payroll service becomes more important than ever. We are looking for a meticulous and proactive Payroll Officer to join our Payroll team. In this vital role, you will help ensure our colleagues across England and Scotland are paid correctly and on time, providing a service they can trust and rely on. By supporting the smooth running of our payroll processes, you will play a key part in creating a positive experience for our dedicated workforce - so they can continue focusing on making a difference in people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Effectively manage and prioritise your workload to consistently meet strict payroll deadlines.
  • Accurately process and validate employee data, ensuring the highest standards of data integrity.
  • Provide administrative support to the Payroll Team, including managing emails, responding to queries, and preparing written correspondence.
  • Deliver excellent customer service by offering clear advice and guidance on payroll processes to colleagues across the organisation.
  • Ensure full compliance with the Data Protection Act, maintaining confidentiality and discretion at all times.
  • Collaborate with HR and other departments to maintain accurate and up-to-date employee records.
  • Liaise with HMRC and other government bodies as required.
  • Identify and implement opportunities to streamline and automate payroll processes, reducing errors and improving efficiency.
  • Undertake additional duties as required by the Deputy Payroll Manager or Head of Payroll.

About You:

  • Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work to tight deadlines.
  • Confident in using payroll systems and handling sensitive data with discretion.
  • An effective communicator, capable of providing clear guidance and support to colleagues at all levels.
  • Proactive and solutions-focused, with the ability to identify and suggest process improvements.
  • Knowledge of payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and best practice processes is desirable.
